Electronics Coatings

BASF develops technologies to improve customers' products and processes in a vast array of markets. When it comes to electronic applications, the company has been a leading provider of precious metals products for decades. BASF Catalysts is specialized in the manufacturing and marketing of precious metals powders and pastes for a variety of electronics markets including sensors (pressure - oxygen), electronic components (multi-layer ceramic capacitors), solar cells, etc. On this site you will find an overview of the products BASF Catalysts has developed for the electronics industry. However, if you require a product that is not listed on this website, please do not hesitate to contact us. Together we can develop a product that addresses your specific needs.

Powders Product Line
BASF Catalysts’s precious metal powders for electronic use are made of high purity metals and alloys. Powder characteristics have been adjusted to those parameters, which have been found useful in the preparation of compositions for electronic use. A variety of powders with various specifications are available to suit formulation requirements.

Pastes Product Line
Oxygen Sensor Platinum Inks BASF Catalysts’s platinum inks are ideal for the demanding requirements of oxygen sensors. These materials are manufactured with BASF Catalysts’s platinum powders, which are made from high purity metal and under strictly controlled manufacturing processes. Three categories of platinum inks are available to match individual processing parameters: reactive bond, unfritted, and fritted systems.

Thick Film Inks
Thick film inks are widely used in various applications, such as hybrid ICs and thermal print heads.

Internal Electrode Inks
All BASF Catalysts internal electrode inks are made with BASF Catalysts’s metal powders, which employ the latest powder manufacturing technologies. These powders exhibit fewer agglomerates and excellent dispersibility to help reduce dF and capacitance spread. Electrode inks are customized to match the capacitor manufacturer’s processing parameters.

Liquid Bright Gold Inks
These are gold solutions that produce metallic gold films, which are highly efficient reflectors of infrared radiation. The employment of these extremely thin gold films makes possible important weight reductions, especially in the aerospace industry.

Surfactive Silver/Platinum and Silver Inks
Silver/Platinum and Silver Inks are chemically bonded thick film conductors using a surfactive bonding mechanism. This type of composition contains no discrete frit or oxide particles to interfere with soldering or wire bonding.

Flexible Silver and Low Temperature Flexible Silver Inks
The Flexible Silver products are screen printable, thermal cured silver ink with good conductivity and excellent flexibility. Their high adhesion and conductivity can make them a preferred option for many applications. Low Temperature Flexible silver inks can be used as conductive coatings, electrodes, and as an electroplating base on temperature sensitive substrates such as paper, plastic, and similar materials.

Organic Encapsulant Inks
BASF Catalysts Organic Encapsulants are pigmented coatings for screen printing application to fired thick film circuits. When properly diluted, they may be dip coated. They can offer good protection against solvents, mechanical abrasion, and harsh environments.

Resinates Product Line
The metal resinate is supplied in solution form and can be diluted to any given concentration. They provide high purity metals in organic solution form, which can be used when metal additions are needed in organic formulations.

Metallo-Organics Product Line
Metallo-Organics are solutions of metal compounds in organic solvents. Unlike traditional thick film inks consisting of discrete particles in suspension, all of the constituents are in true solution. This can provide significant advantages over thick film products.
