Mobile Emissions Catalysts

A leader in clean air technology for many years, BASF has unsurpassed expertise in the development of environmental catalysts to help protect the air we breathe.

Catalyst expertise enabled BASF to pioneer the development of the first catalytic converters for automobiles, one of the most important pollution abatement devices ever invented. The catalytic converter dramatically reduces tailpipe emissions, and is now standard equipment on most cars around the world.

BASF environmental catalysts are also used today to minimize emissions on new buses, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds, as well as retrofitting diesel vehicles in North America, Europe, and other parts of the world.

Environmental catalysts are also effective in reducing NOx and CO emissions from power-generating equipment, mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants, and VOC emissions from factories.

Though not as visible as motor vehicles or smokestacks, small engines are another significant source of pollution. BASF environmental catalysts are also making a difference in this area — helping to make weed whackers, leaf blowers, and lawn mowers run cleaner.
