TriMax three-way catalysts

TriMax™ catalysts feature a patented construction of platinum, rhodium and palladium that enables them to significantly outperform conventional three-way catalysts in the oxidation of hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO).

This state-of-the-art platform technology uses BASF Catalysts's patented, segregated washcoat technology, which precisely places the precious metals within the washcoat, resulting in several important benefits:
  • Optimal use of precious metals
  • Lower cost and higher effectiveness
  • Higher conversions of CO, HC and nitrogen oxides (NOx) over a wide range of conditions
Compared to conventional three-way catalysts, TriMax catalysts:
  • Have a lower light-off temperature, reducing the need for a pre- or start catalyst
  • Offer high temperature stability enabling the catalyst to be moved closer to the manifold
  • Minimize hydrogen sulfide (H2S) emissions without using nickel
  • Have outstanding resistance to lead
  • Have a stable oxygen storage function to help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) meet On-Board Diagnostics II (OBDII) requirements
BASF Catalysts often customizes TriMax catalysts to meet specific automotive requirements and helps auto manufacturers balance cost against performance needs.
