U.S. diesel retrofit funding is available through DERA (Diesel
Emissions Reduction Act). DERA is a bipartisan initiative to help
states clean up diesel fleets with funding of $300 million
for 2009 in the Stimulus Bill plus funds made available
through regular appropriations.
Technology advances enable 60 new trucks to emit the same level
of pollution as one truck manufactured just 20 years ago.
These reductions are critical to addressing human health and
pollution as diesel vehicles can operate for 20-30 years.
Retrofitting diesel engines with exhaust after-treatment devices
is cost-effective and produces immediate emissions reductions.
