Small engines

Small, two- and four-stroke engines used to power motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and lawn and garden equipment (such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, edgers, trimmers and chainsaws) contribute significantly to air pollution. BASF offers ingenious solutions to cost-effectively reduce these emissions.

Small engine catalysts are designed to cut pollution from two- and four-stroke engines that run on gasoline or diesel fuel. More than half of the hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions from these engines can be eliminated in most applications. In some cases, the catalyst can be coated directly onto engine parts, for example onto the interior surfaces of mufflers. This approach contributes greatly to cost savings.

Our small engine catalysts offer:
  • Stable performance
  • Low deterioration factor
  • Maintenance of light-off characteristics
In addition to direct application onto engine parts, the catalysts are available on conventional metallic or ceramic substrates. We work with customers to custom design the right catalytic solution for their applications.
