Blocking Group Removal Catalysts

As a new series of protecting-group removal catalysts, BASF Blocking Group Removal catalysts (BGR) offer up to 180% higher activity when compared to conventional catalyst. Filtration time is also reduced – translating into decreased reaction time and costs.

BASF BGR catalyst has proven effective in selective removal of common blocking groups (benzyl) used in organic synthesis and removal of protecting groups used in peptide synthesis (FMOC, t-BOC).

An important requirement for the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industries, BASF BGR has also proven effective in removing blocking groups in chiral synthesis – without disturbing the chiral center – an important requirement for the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industry.

BASF set out to make this removal step easier and more efficient. We applied our expertise in surface and materials science to develop a new series of catalysts with higher activity - while maintaining good selectivity. BASF BGR catalysts consistently outperform standard catalysts at comparable metal loadings. This activity increase, coupled with shorter time requirements for filtration results in direct cost savings for our customers.

BASF is focused on the specific needs of the pharmaceutical and fine chemicals markets – BASF BGR catalyst was developed to address those requirements.
