Metals Scavenging Agent (MSA)

Removing the remains of homogeneous precious metal catalysts from reaction mixtures is an important step in product purification. Difficult and often expensive -- recrystallizations, precipitations, or distillations have been used to purify product mixtures. BASF enables our customers to address and meet those challenges with our metals scavenging agent (MSA).

Easier-to-use and effective in removing dissolved metal complexes, BASF MSA efficiently eliminates the remains of homogeneous catalysts after reactions are completed. Simple and flexible, our metals scavenging agent in powder form can be applied in a chromatographic bed, or the product can be added to your reaction mixture as a solid and the resulting slurry filtered out.

BASF metals scavenging agent will remove metal complexes containing all of the platinum group metals - Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Ir etc. The ligands attached to the metal complexes will be removed as well. The removed precious metals can be recovered and refined at BASF facilities.

BASF has long been an industry leader in providing technical solutions to pharmaceutical and fine chemicals markets – publishing many of the early hydrogenation techniques.
