Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts for petroleum refiners

refineryFor more than 50 years, BASF Catalysts has been pioneering innovative catalyst technologies and additives for the petroleum refining industry.

Our DMS platform technology has spun off several new products over the last two years. DMS stands for Distributed Matrix Structures and was developed by leveraging a technology base originating in our Appearance and Performance Technologies group.

The first products spun off of the DMS platform were NaphthaMax® and NaphthaMax®-LSG (low sulfur gasoline). They are designed for short contact time (SCT) gas oil operations (non-SCT operations can also see benefits by applying these catalysts to a lesser magnitude).

- NaphthaMax significantly increases unit conversion and liquid yield without increasing undesirable coke and light gas. The results have been validated in over 25 commercial units.

- NaphthaMax-LSG extends the technology and aims at reducing gasoline sulfur levels. This technology has also been proven successfully in several commercial operations where refiners can directly reduce the gasoline sulfur upwards of 40% without loss of any gasoline volume or octane and no increase in coke and light gas production. In fact, conversion and production of other valuable liquid fuels typically increases in the process.

- Our latest introduction, Flex-Tec® is designed from the same DMS technology platform for resid processing and, currently, is demonstrating the same remarkable results as NaphthaMax in commercial trials.

Our passion to continually improve productivity, coupled with our core competencies in surface and materials science, has positioned us to enable refiners with advanced catalytic technologies for today and tomorrow.
