Polyolefins, such as
polyethylene and polypropylene, are produced through
polymerization, which requires unique catalysts designed for each
type of plastic. Plastic automobile parts, bottles, containers,
bags, industrial pipes, carpeting and toys are just some of the
growing number of uses for polyolefins.
BASF Catalysts understands that our customers need catalyst
technology that will optimize their polyolefin manufacturing
process, as well as provide them with product differentiation in a
competitive marketplace. In response, we have assembled a
commercial and technical group that collectively has more than 200
years experience in the development and application of catalyst
technologies for all polyolefin processes.
We provide customers with both our own proprietary catalysts, and
also work with them to develop custom catalysts for their specific
process needs.
Specifically, our
Lynx® platform technology has
spun off a series of polymerization catalyst products. Lynx
technology based products have gained widespread market acceptance
due to their high efficiency, high activity and control of
crystallinity and stiffness to desired levels. These products are
being produced in the United States and Europe giving customers
access to supplies where and when needed. We also collaborate with
our customers to optimize their own catalyst and process
technologies, and even bring them to third parties. Some examples:
- We helped perfect and now manufacture BP Amoco's CD catalyst,
which is used by the company and their licensees to manufacture a
broad range of products.
- We collaborated with Borealis to scale-up and commercialize BC1
for their Borstar process.
- In an alliance with Novolen Technology Holdings, worldwide
licensor of PP process technology, we produces PTK catalyst for
Novolen licensees at our newest facility in Tarragona Spain.
