Legacy with Engelhard

BASF Catalysts | Precious Metals

Engelhard Corporation was a renowned name in the precious metals market when they were acquired by BASF in 2006. BASF has continued to build on the precious metals expertise of Engelhard and has retained the Engelhard brand.

Engelhard was started in 1902 by Charles W. Engelhard, Sr. when he purchased the Charles F. Croselmire Company in Newark, New Jersey, USA. With the purchase of Hanovia Chemical and Manufacturing Company, Engelhard officially became the world’s largest refiner and fabricator of platinum, gold and silver. The Wall Street Journal began publishing EIB (Engelhard Industrial Bullion) prices. Engelhard grew over the years, pioneering many new uses for platinum group metals – a tradition that BASF has continued. Today, platinum group metals are used in pharmaceuticals and medical devices as well as fertilizers and catalysts and many other essential products.

Why choose to go with BASF?
